Zambian rap group Zone Fam made history by becoming the first Zambian act to win a Channel O music video award. The group was nominated alongside heavyweights that included Teargas and Micasa from South Africa, Xtatic of Kenya, Naeto C from Nigeria, under the category  ‘most gifted duo, group or featuring’. The Zambian group accepted their award at the Walter Sisulu square in SOWETO, Johannesburg at the prestigious star studded award ceremony held on the 30th of November which was also celebrating its 10th anniversary of the awards.

Zone Fam 4The award comes as the second nomination for Zone Fam at the CHOVMA with the first one having been in 2011 under the category of most gifted newcomer. The winning of the award has been viewed by many as a step in the right direction for the group and for Zambian based artists due to the struggle Zambian artists have had to assert themselves on the international market. The group realized mainstream success with their hit single, “Shaka Zulu on ‘em” in 2011 which was off their début album, “The Business; Foreign Exchange”.

“As Zone Fam we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone that has supported us from the first song we ever released. Winning the Channel O Award has brought alot of things into perspective and it feels like we have come full circle though this marks the beginning of greater things to come. Our Record Label Taurus Musik and CEO Ikechukwu Anoke have worked hard since launching last year and they brought us to larger continental audience.

We would like to thank Channel O for acknowledging our efforts and for continuing to expose African Talent the World over. Most of all we would like to thank our fans across Africa and around the Globe – without you we wouldn’t be where we are today and we shall forever be thankful.”
