Wizkid has this year been going leaps and bounds as far as his music career is concerned. The multi award winning Nigerian artist who is signed to RCA an imprint of Sony Music only a few months ago joined an elite number of performers who sold out the o2 in the UK within minutes; but then sold out his second and third shows that were added due to demand within a days. So the rise of his Essence single which has been a viral sensation comes as no surprise; the song which originally featured only fellow Nigerian artist TEMS later had a remix version released featuring Justin Bieber. It is this remix that sent fans into a frenzy as Justin Bieber can officially be listed amongst his biggest collaborations with Beyoncé being the top with Brown Skin Girl.

His collaboration with with TEMS and Justin has now made its way successfully into the Billboard hot 10, safely sitting at number 10, this is not the first time the artist has appeared on the charts as he appeared on Drake’s One dance but it is the first time as a solo artist and the song is the first ever Nigerian song in history to hit the top 10 on the Billboard hot 100, this is definitely a celebratory moment for Africa.

Fans of Wizkid and TEMS could not be more excited about this news however some are disappointed that it had to be the Justin Bieber remix that went into the top 10, most felt that the song was already a whole as it was and the involvement of Justin Bieber did not add anything different as the song was good with or without him and they fear that some of the credit might go to Justin Bieber.

Wizkids album ‘Made in Lagos’ has hit billion streams world wide this is less than a year after releasing the album. On Apple music the album has 322 million streams, 229 million on spotify.

Wizkids fanbase has grown tremendously over the years, on his current tour, the MILtour during a concert in Texas four fans reportedly fought over his sweaty tour that he through in the crowd during his performance, the dramatic incident was recorded on camera and after a long debate about who gets to keep the towel, they decided to spit the towel four ways with each fan getting a piece, one of the ladies asked to be buried with it.

It is amazing to see just how far Wizkid has come, he is now recognized world wide and he is a great example for his fellow African artists. TEMS feature on Essence has opened so many great doors for her as well, as she has not been around as long as Wizkid but she is enjoying success that seasoned Nigerian artists can only dream of and she is so appreciative. Fans of the two are excited to see what else the artists have in store for them.
