WIZKID HAS BEEN NAMED APPLE MUSIC’S ARTIST OF THE YEAR

The year just keeps getting better for Nigerian artist Wizkid, who has been named artist of the year 2021 by Apple music on Tuesday. These awards celebrate outstanding musical acts across five categories, which are artist of the year, Songwriter of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Top Song of the Year and Top Album of the Year.

“The past 12 months have proved to be a remarkable year for music, and we’re thrilled to honour the artists who are shaping culture and connecting with fans around the world on Apple Music,” Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats, Oliver Schusser, said. “This year we’re also recognizing more regional artists, showing the world the impact of extraordinarily talented musicians who are making waves globally.”

Wizkid thanked Apple music for the award.“Thank you to Apple Music for this award, it’s a blessing to get to do what I do, and I’m proud to be representing for Africa.”

This award adds to the singers already existing 2021 success, which was mainly because of his hit single ‘Essence’ which he featured Nigerian singer Tems whose also receiving a great deal of opportunities due to the song. R&B singer Neo was asked in interview which song he wished he had written and he mentioned ‘Essence’. Wizkid was also awarded for best African act by MTV Europe music awards, he is also nominated for multiple awards at the up coming Grammys next year and by the looks of things it is very possible for him to get one or two Grammys.

R&B sensation HER received the award for Songwriter of the year at the Apple music awards and The weekend was named the global artist of the year.
