Ways to Make Your Foundation Look Like Second Skin

By  |

We have all been there when putting foundation on ends up looking worse than not having any foundation on at all; even more so when you are left with a cakey look and fine lines that are made to look more prominent than prior to when you had applied the foundation. This year, the natural makeup look, or the less is more makeup look, has become a worldwide trend, which is why wearing foundation that looks like your second skin is a style many people are trying to achieve. However, for some individuals it is a little difficult to achieve, which is the inspiration behind putting together the best foundation tips I could find in order to help you achieve your desired look!

Hydration

Before the foundation application, prepping the skin is the most vital step out of the entire routine, which may be a surprise for some, but hydration is key to achieving a natural looking foundation base. Celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow stresses the importance of skin hydration when saying, “Make sure that you have no dry patches as it can make the skin rough, and foundation will not go on as smoothly.” She explains that using a cream that both complements the skin type and makes a good thick layer of hydration on your skin will do wonders for when applying foundation.

Primer

The next step is using the right primer, which is usually skipped by some as there is not enough importance given to primers and the types that are available for different results. However, when you have a skin concern you would like to target, such as enlarged pores or oily to combination skin, then using a blurring or a mattifying primer can help you temporarily fix these.

Foundation

The next step is for you to apply your foundation by either using your fingers, a sponge, or a brush; each one requires a different amount of foundation to be pumped or squeezed out, so be careful on how much you are applying. It is easy to build up on the foundation coverage but not to take off, so start off with small amounts. A good tip is to start blending the foundation from the center of your face outwards, as this will ensure maximum coverage blended out at the edges to avoid the foundation looking like a face mask. Make sure you choose a good foundation that is exactly your skin tone and gives the effects of a natural dewy finish.

Concealer

If there are any skin concerns you would like to target and conceal, then find a concealer that is the exact same shade as the foundation you just used and start spot concealing anywhere you need to. After this, use a concealer one or two shades lighter for under eyes and anywhere else you would like to highlight.

Translucent Powder and Finishing Spray

Finally, use translucent powder if you are looking for a more mattifying effect, or use a finishing spray for a natural or dewy appearance – this will set your foundation and concealer before you continue with the rest of your makeup, as it helps to stop the products from moving or rubbing off.

With these simple steps, you will definitely achieve amazing results; after this, you can continue applying a bronzer, blush and highlight to the face to finish off your base, though it is recommended to skip contour if you want a natural “second skin” look. No more cakey face with fine lines!
