Unlocking Your Sixth Sense

Have you ever wondered what using your sixth sense really means? It crosses many people’s mind every so often, but it can be difficult to know where to go on from this thought alone, which is why not many people realise how to use it and that we are already using it on a daily basis. According to Theresa Cheung, who wrote the book ‘Working With Your Sixth Sense’, “if you have ever had a feeling that something might happen and it did, or had a dream that came true, or thought something at exactly the same time someone else did, then you are using your sixth sense without even realising it.” The sixth sense can help in all aspects of life, therefore, it is important to understand the concept of using it consciously, so read on if this sounds like something you would like to have full control of!

According to Soul and Spirit Magazine, “Your sixth sense is the world inside your head – the world of intuition or psychic power. It is a super sense, the cumulative power of all your other senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell, and hearing. It’s also an amazing source of creative power, understanding and insight. As we all born with intuition, we can all use it to find meaning in our lives and realise our full potential. Trouble is most of us aren’t aware of our intuition and don’t know how to use it. It is a forgotten art that needs to be rediscovered and developed and the simple exercises below will get you started.”

Ways to try and notice or use your sixth sense are:
- Take time out – in a busy world, taking moments of complete silence helps to connect with yourself and become more self-aware.
- Listen to your gut feeling – sometimes, these feelings are there to guide you; trust yourself on your feeling with people and situations.
- Look for signs – “For example, do you often hear the same song? Do certain numbers keep appearing? Did you just happen to bump into someone?”
- Notice – The more you notice and celebrate lightbulb moments the more you are likely to have.
- Guess – When your phone rings before you pick it up see if you can guess who is calling. Do the same thing when a text has come through.
- Dreams and daydream – “Your sixth sense does not sleep when you do and your dreams can provide you with creative solutions. Before you go to bed at night, think about any issues or questions you want an answer to and see what your dreaming mind comes up with.”
- Keep a diary – writing down thoughts and feelings can be a good way to start your sixth sense to work consciously. You can begin to tap into your inner thoughts and over time, see things differently.
