Trolls 3 Movie Sets a Release Date

Universal has finally set a release date for the popular DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls 3 movie for the 17th of November 2023. It is not clear whether the Trolls director Walt Dohrn will be returning on set or not, but we are nonetheless excited for the threequel. Considering the success of the first movie that earned $350 million at the global box office and the second movie Trolls World Tour during the pandemic that grossed more than $100 million on premium video on demand, Trolls 3 is expected to be a huge success as an exclusive theatrical release for 17 days before going on premium video on demand.

Universal initially sparked a big controversy when it was first announced that the sequel movie Trolls World Tour was going theatrical day-and-date on PVOD. This was during the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 when cinemas were just closing, which led to the situation getting escalated and a public letter was sent from the AMC Boss Adam Aron to Universal Filmed Entertainment Group Chairman Donna Langley. It stated that the “No. 1 circuit in the world would not play day-and-date releases,” and eventually, Universal and AMC broke “ground on closing the theatrical window for movies on a 17-day and 30-day basis with the movie chain getting a cut of PVOD money.”

The first Troll movie in the franchise was nominated for Best Original Song Oscar award, in which Justin Timberlake sang “Can’t Stop the Feeling”, which was a massive hit. Through the success, the Trolls brand expanded past the movies, including hit TV series, prime-time holiday specials, original digital content, video games, toys, live-entertainment touring shows, Universal Studios Parks’ attractions, and experiential installations across the globe.

Tomorrow on the 26th November at 9pm ET/PT, NBC is premiering “Trolls Holiday in Harmony,” a special featuring the voices of Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake, so keep a look out for that and start preparing for the third Trolls movie!
