Amazon Prime Video has finally revealed the trailer for the upcoming final season of ‘The Expanse’, which consists of six episodes that will be released every Friday starting on 10th December 2021 and concluding on 14thJanuary 2022. The announcement was made during the New York Comic Con virtual panel with the cast and executive producers of the show, where a first look of the new season six trailer was unveiled for the audience.
The show is set in a galaxy in which the system is divided between the governments of Earth, Mars, and the Asteroid Belt; however, a strange alien technology interferes the balance of power in the universe, and the crew of a ship known as the Rocinante find themselves in the middle of this conflict, where they must work to help save humanity before war pushes the situation to a point of no return. The season six trailer hinted a final battle, which is expected to be the show’s biggest one yet, according to the producers Naren Shankar, Daniel Abraham, and Ty Franck.
Ty Franck added to this and said, “I think, the thing that season six does is it pays off the story that we began in episode one of season one where the Martians, the Earthers and the Belters were all in this incredibly uneasy and unstable political system with the Belters absolutely being at the foot of that table and everybody fighting for their place in the solar system. I think we pay off that story in a very satisfying way. And we keep some of the mystery intact involving the greater forces of the universe that humans are only starting to become aware. If we want to tell more stories.”
‘The Expanse’, an Amazon Prime Video television show, is based on a book series of the same name by James S.A. Corey, which is the pen name for two authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. The show had previously been cancelled by Syfy channel at the conclusion of season three; but it was brought back to life when Alcon Television Group, the studio that produced the show, sold the series to Amazon, who then continued The Expanse from season four onwards.
Now that ‘The Expanse’ is coming to an end, Naren Shankar, the executive producer, discussed whether there could be more for ‘The Expanse’ in the form of another channel or streaming outlet, just as how the show was rescued by Amazon before when Syfy Channel sold it. He said, “what I will say is that there’s definitely more to tell and I’m sure Ty and Daniel [the authors] would say exactly the same thing. But yeah, that’s probably about as much as I can say at this point.”
Developer and scriptwriter Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby agreed with Naren Shankar, and each ended with a comment on the wish that everyone enjoys the final season as much as they enjoyed the process of creating ‘The Expanse’ season six.
