The best place to go on holiday for October

October is just around the corner, and so are our plans for the month! With the end of summer and the start of school in September, October feels like a continuation of settling in. However, now that both temperatures and prices have dropped at this time of the year, this is the best time to go visiting abroad, and the choice hot spot for you this month is Turkey; the perfect vacation destination if you would like to keep yourself from having the summer blues.
Last month, I started this series off by recommending Spain as a hot spot for September. Now that we are about to enter the month of October, it is time to look at why I believe Turkey is the place to be.
Antalya, Turkey

As a popular destination, Antalya does not disappoint with its constant sun and an average temperature of 20°C in October. Tourism season is winding down which also means that there will be less crowds, making it a good holiday before winter begins.
The city is the perfect combination of lush nature, dazzling beaches and exciting activities. If you are looking for a sunny getaway, as well as delicious local food, then start finding dates to book your holiday here!
There are many highlight of Antalya, so rather than leaving you blank, I have compiled a few things to look out for when in Turkey.
Beaches

Antalya hosts 202 blue flag beaches, holding the record for the most blue flag beaches in the world. Some favourites include Konyaalti Beach, which is spacious and has beautiful Bey Mountains as a backdrop. There is also Lara Beach, which is a popular sandy beach with sunbeds and plenty of cafes and bars in the area. Belek Beach has 16 kilometres of fine white sand, great for taking aesthetic pictures. Lastly, Patara Beach is on the outskirts of the Antalya region. It is stunning, unspoilt, and is the longest beach in the country.
Food and drinks

Treat yourself with Turkish kebabs and try some fried vegetables, as they are a large part of the local cuisine. Seasoned yoghurt is a garnish choice but recommended to fully immerse yourself in the Turkish cuisine. There are other dishes like stuffed vine leaves and kofta that will leave your mouth watering for more! A great dessert is the well-known baklava, which is a sweet and syrup pastry cut into bite sizes.
Tourism

The old town, Kaleici, is filled with rustic buildings on cobbled streets and features Hadrian’s Gate, built in 130 AD. There are many other archaeological sites to discover around the region too, like the ruins of Perge and Termessos cities still having stunning ancient walls and theatres for the public to explore. You can also take this chance to visit the Temple of Apollo where Anthony met Cleopatra, one of history’s most famous lovers.

With so many choices, it can be difficult to plan a trip and do everything you want to. Therefore, no matter how long your trip is, choose your favourite activities first and make the most of it! October will bring lots of opportunities for you to make the time for a week long holiday, or just a weekend if you prefer.
