Spider-Man: No Way Home Film Review (No Spoilers!)

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ was released on the 15th of December 2021 and most fans went to watch it on open day at the cinema, pre-booking tickets and filling up seats so much that it was almost impossible to watch the new film without having pre-booked tickets. As the third film in the Spider-Man trilogy, it is no wonder there were many anticipations, and as someone who has also watched it, I would say that the hype around the film was not just there for nothing! I was ecstatic when I walked out of the cinema, and I still am, so let us talk about ‘No Way Home’ in detail without giving away any spoilers.

The new Spider-Man film was produced by Kevin Feige, who is also the Marvel Studios president, and Amy Pascal, as well as being directed by Jon Watts. As a refresher if you have not watched the film yet, check out the trailer and the description below before we get into it:
“With Spider-Man’s identity now revealed, our friendly neighbourhood web-slinger is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life as Peter Parker from the high stakes of being a superhero. When Peter asks for help from Doctor Strange, the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”

Despite the fact that there is so much I will not reveal in this review, in order to avoid spoiling for those who have not watched the film, there is still a lot I can talk about, because there is never a dull moment in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. To date, this is personally one of my most favourite Marvel films yet. No matter how much you enjoy a film, there are moments and scenes you do not care about as much as the filmmakers might want you to; you cannot concentrate and keep your attention on the screen because looking away for a minute or two does not change anything. For ‘No Way Home’, I felt the complete opposite, I thought if I looked away even for a few seconds, I would miss something, and already, I am hoping to re-watch the film soon to catch moments I may not have fully appreciated enough.

You see some of the best actors holding their own respective Marvel roles, such as Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony Stark aka Iron Man, and Tom Holland has definitely become a hero who has earned his title as Spider-Man; I cannot imagine anyone taking over his role as the Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – not to disregard Andrew Garfield and Tobey McGuire, they did amazing in their roles too, but we are strictly speaking about the Marvel Universe.
The 25-year-old actor works well in most situations, and since this film was such an emotional rollercoaster, he adapted to every scene and played with the right emotions each time; Tom Holland added humour at times when it was needed, and was serious when it felt right, he was never out of place. The overall build-up to the film was amazing, the secrets were worth keeping from us, and the performance on-screen by every cast member was fantastic!
The addition of Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina in the third instalment of the trilogy, as shown in the trailer, was the trigger of a thousand theories by dedicated Marvel fans; not only that, but many were excited to see the villains from the first Spider-Man film way back in 2002 and 2004. Having watched the film, it was worth seeing them return and the reactions by the current Spider-Man cast was hilarious; I was initially afraid that the characters of Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina would not be the same as they were in their original films, but I was happy to see that that was not the case – you will know what I mean if you watch the film!

Unfortunately, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ will not be available to stream on Disney+ anytime soon and is instead set for exclusive cinema release only. Look out for further updates on this as things may change, but as of now, the only way to watch the film is by going to the cinema, so hurry and watch the film with your friends and family and see what you think!
