Recommended Family Board Games

By  |

If you are looking for a new or the next board game to play during a family or friends game night, then you have come to the right place, as not only do I have some great classic game recommendations, but I also have a variety that you may not have ever heard of before! Some of the great things about these games is that they help you with your verbal reasoning, social skills, as well as numeric and literacy skills, which makes them great for game nights with children, so read on and start adding to your basket.

Exploding Kittens

“Exploding Kittens is a highly strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette. Basically, if you draw an Exploding Kitten, you lose and you are full of loser sad-sauce. All the other cards in the deck help you avoid or mitigate your risk of drawing an Exploding Kitten. If you don’t explode, YOU WIN!”

Monopoly

“Monopoly is a real-estate board game for two to eight players. The player’s goal is to remain financially solvent while forcing opponents into bankruptcy by buying and developing pieces of property. Bankruptcy results in elimination from the game. The last player remaining on the board is the winner.”

Uno

“UNO™ is the classic family card game that’s easy to pick up and impossible to put down! Players take turns matching a card in their hand with the current card shown on top of the deck either by color or number. … The first player to get rid of all the cards in their hand wins.”

Sequence

“Sequence is a board and card game. … The players compete to create rows, columns or diagonals of 5 connected checkers placed on the cards that the player has laid down. Two-eyed Jacks are wild, while one-eyed Jacks allow an opponent’s checker to be removed.”

Backgammon

“Backgammon is a two-player game in which each player has fifteen pieces (pips) that move between twenty-four triangles (points) according to the roll of two dice. The objective of the game is to be first to bear off, i.e. move all fifteen pieces off the board.”

Articulate

“Articulate! is a board game from Drumond Park, for 4 to 20+ players aged 12 and up with original concept by Andrew Bryceson. Articulate! players describe words from six different categories (Object, Nature, Random, Person, Action and World) to their team as quickly as possible.”
