Zambia’s leading travel agents have been unveiled in this year’s prestigious Proflight Zambia awards.

The Zambia-based regional airline’s sought-after annual accolades recognise some of the best players in the industry and are rapidly setting the benchmark for service delivery standards in the leisure and business travel market.

More than 20 tour operator representatives attended the awards ceremony in Lusaka this week, at which Proflight’s Marketing Manager Hellen Ngwira Mwamba outlined the airline’s significant achievements during 2013, including the launch of its first international routes – to Lilongwe and Dar-es-Salaam, and the start of a service from Lusaka to Mongu.

“Travel agents provide a central service to Zambia’s tourism and business travel sector, and Proflight Zambia is committed to maintaining its strong links and forging even stronger relationships with the sector,” said Ngwira Mwamba.

The airline made nine awards during its presentation ceremony, with awards including a sunset champagne flight over Lake Kariba and a fight over Lusaka.

Zambia Ground Handlers was awarded for having the highest number of charters booked, while Voyagers Lusaka recorded the highest revenue for charters booked.

The top selling agents of the airline’s Citizen’s Special fare were Skyjet, Sterling Travel, Travelshop, Destination Zambia, Voyagers Chingola, Voyagers Kitwe, Voyagers Lusaka, Voyagers Ndola, Zambian Ground Handlers, while Carol Musama of Destination Zambia was named as the top selling Citizen’s Special individual consultant.

Bush Buzz, Destination Zambia, People and Places, Skyjet, Travelshop, Voyagers Lusaka  (in no particular order) sold the most Getaway Specials, while Angela Banda of Voyagers Lusaka was the top selling consultant in that category.

Voyagers Kitwe was awarded for selling the first seat on Proflight’s new service from Lusaka to Mongu, and Memory Chipango of Voyagers Lusaka was named as the overall top-selling consultant in sales and bookings.

Other prize winners during the event included Quiz Winners First place: Nosizi from Zambian Ground Handlers, Second place: Saliwe from Juls Travel, third place: Evie from Zambian Ground Handlers.
