PROFLIGHT VETERAN CLIMBS TO NEW DIRECTOR OF FLIGHT OPERATIONS ROLE

Highly skilled captain flies to another level with country’s favourite airline

Lusaka, Zambia – Proflight Zambia’s long serving and highly experienced pilot Captain Gerald Tembo has been promoted from chief pilot to the position of director of flight operations.
Capt. Tembo’s new position involves being responsible for personnel and departments making sure Zambia’s leading airline is safe, the pilots, engineers, staff and the cabin crew are well trained and at the top of their game in all aspects of the aviation industry. He has a generation’s worth of invaluable experience in the business and has been with the airline for more than seven years. He takes on this top job at a time when the company is expanding its routes and fleet with larger aircraft and a new service to Harare. “Proflight Zambia is proud to have some of the best pilots in the region, among them Captain Tembo, who brings with him a vast array of knowledge, experience and leadership. We are confident that he will help take the airline to new heights,” said the airline’s director of government and industry affairs Capt. Philip Lemba.

Aviation, like any other industry, requires leadership with the right skills, knowledge and experience that understands how to cooperate with the authorities in making sure the airline is safe, the pilots, engineers, staff and the cabin crew are well trained and up to speed in the aviation environment. Capt. Tembo has been working in the aviation industry for more than 30 years. He started his career with the Flying Doctors Service in 1986 as a pilot, flying Islander aircraft. Since then he has flown for various companies in Zambia and in 1994 he started flying the Presidential jet while also flying for Roan Air.

In 1998 he became chief pilot for Zambian Airways and head of flight operations.
Between 2010 and 2012 he worked for the Department of Civil Aviation before joining Proflight in 2012 as a captain on the Jetstream 41 aircraft. Capt. Tembo is also a qualified 737-200 captain.

Proflight Zambia celebrates 27 years of operation this year. It flies to more than ten destinations throughout Zambia and provides the backbone of the nation’s domestic aviation capacity. The airline recently launched flights to Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital city, adding to its international routes.
