OKEY BAKASSI TO HOST IGBO NEW YAM FESTIVAL, CORK IRELAND 2015

Ace actor and comedian Okey Bakassi is confirmed to host this years’ edition of Igbo New Yam Festival holding in the city of Cork, Republic of Ireland. The event which comes up on Sunday, 2, August at Cork City Hall will feature Igbo cultural activities which will include dances, music, fashion and the official cutting of the ‘new yam’.

The Igbo New Yam Festival is an annual event held at the end of the rainy season in early August. The festival is an event symbolizing the conclusion of a harvest and the beginning of the next work cycle. The celebration is a very culturally based occasion, tying individual Igbo communities together as essentially agrarian and dependent on yam.

The organisers of the event, Igbo Union Cork Ireland recently commissioned photo shoot which produced promotional and cultural images for the event.
