Official Trailer Released for Courtney Barnett’s Documentary ‘Anonymous Club’

By  |

Dropping an album last week, called ‘Things Take Time, Take Time’, was not enough for Courtney Barnett, as she also dropped a preview of the upcoming documentary ‘Anonymous Club’. The film was recorded over the last three years and will be an intimate access for fans to her private life, and now that the trailer has been released just today on the 15th of November, fans can look forward to an in-depth understanding of Courtney Barnett and how she deals with fame.

Behind the camera, we have the editor Ben Hall and the director Danny Cohen, who collaborated with the award-winning lyricist in creating many of her music videos, including “Everybody Hates You” and “Need A Little Time”. Courtney Barnett, well-known for being introverted and guarded, will be providing exclusive footage through her audio diary on an analogue dictaphone; which captures the singer’s internal struggles of confidence and self-perception, the pressures of fame, and the understanding of her place in music and as an artist navigating the world around her. This unique filming process mirrors Courtney Barnett’s search for purpose and emergence as an artist embracing her place in the world as she slowly accepts Danny Cohen’s camera over the course of the documentary.

Critic Belinda Quinn wrote for NME about the film, saying, “Cohen’s documentary is really distinguished by the magnifying glass it puts on the thought processes of the world-renowned indie-rock artist. Against a backdrop of adoring crowds and picturesque roadside landscapes, Cohen captures Barnett struggling to overcome a creative lull.”

‘Anonymous Club’ premiered at Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney film festivals earlier this year; and although there have been a few trailers for this documentary, this is the official trailer release. The theatrical release is due for March 2022.
