Nintendo Issues 1,300 Copyright Blocks to YouTuber GilvaSunner On Soundtrack Videos

Nintendo has become very well-known for its copyright enforcement, and recently, the gaming business has blocked over 1,300 YouTube videos uploaded by user ‘GilvaSunner’ for videos containing copyrighted music from its various games. The targeted channel uploads a variety of video game soundtracks and remixes for which the user does not monetise any of their videos. This is not the first time the YouTuber received copyright claims from Nintendo since many past videos in the recent years have included music from some popular Nintendo titles.

The YouTube user ‘GilvaSunner’ tweeted on social media the list of the specific copyright claims over Nintendo game titles:
‘GilvaSunner’ has said they will fully cooperate with Nintendo’s demands and respect its decisions, as the content is owned by them after all; on the other hand, ‘GilvaSunner’ also points out that there is no other way for fans to listen to these renowned soundtracks unless playing the actual game.
“I see a lot of assumptions being made by some of you with some extreme words against me. Let me clarify again that I do not monetize videos and do not profit from them. I do realize that doesn’t justify uploading the content. I’m also not angry or surprised that Nintendo is doing this, but I do think it’s a bit disappointing there is hardly an alternative. If Nintendo thinks this is what needs to be done (to set an example), I will let them take down the channel. It is their content after all.”

While other Japanese publishers like Capcom and Square Enix have made many of their game soundtracks available on music streaming services, Nintendo has refused to do them same.
