New Picture Book ‘It Must Be Nice’ Illustrates 27 Different Emotions

‘It Must Be Nice’ is a new picture book by the freelance illustrator called Ričards Znutiņš-Znutāns; to bring this book to life, he interviewed 27 people from all over the world and created illustrations based on each person’s feeling that they encountered in their lives. This picture book is inspired by the artist’s interest in psychology to some extent, as ‘It Must Be Nice’ evolved while Ričards Znutiņš-Znutāns was studying in Portugal. He collaborated with the publishing house called Stolen Books and put together the illustrated picture book ‘It Must Be Nice’, detailing the 27 emotions he found through interviewing 27 people.

Ričards Znutiņš-Znutāns spoke to Creative Boom, saying, “Sometimes I just think about things too much. Lately, it’s been much better because my life is more at peace now. And because the last two years of my life were like a roller coaster.”

This picture book gave him a chance to explore his own emotions as well, helping him to understand himself. He spoke further about his illustration style, which consists of the use of simple shapes, cubes, and bright colours. He said, “It impacted my work because, in art school, you always start with a basic cube. That’s where I started, and I guess it stayed with me. Since then, I’ve been using it as a tool for storytelling.”
