A book written by Zambian author David Kashishi has been approved by the ministry of education to be used in schools as a supplementary novel.

The short novel was written by journalist and two time author David Kashiki, the novel is about a young girl who is born with peculiar features but extremely gifted, he sets the scene of the tale in the north Western province of Zambia. In the book David brings forth issues of early marriages, child abuse, stigmatisation, jealousy, love, hatred, ignorance, rising from abuse and advocates for concerted effort in curbing the aforementioned vices.

Chief curriculum specialist Ruth Zulu, signed the approval report on behalf of the permanent secretary, the book has been rated 87% and is now officially approved as a supplementary book.

Earlier in the year, David had stated that he had began on a journey to translate the book form English to Bemba, he wrote in a statement on his socials.

“Zambia is blessed with about 72 languages, and 7 of them, being main languages. These languages have rich culture, that if well embraced, and documented in books like Tukiya, there is almost total guarantee of having the culture preserved and passed onto generations to come. My dream on this project is to ensure that, almost all languages, have the book Tukiya: The Runaway Teen Wife, translated for the locals. Those living in town, can use this book to tell educative stories in the home setup. We need more books authored in various Zambian languages. I dream to be part of this call to write books in Silozi, Cewa, Bemba, Kaonde, Tonga, Bisa, Nkoya, Lunda, Luvale, Lamba, Chokwe, among others.”
