Let The Reading Challenge Begin!
It is the beginning of September and the start of Autumn, which means it is a great time to start something brand new. If you are a book lover, then this is for you. If you have been in a reading slump, then this is also for you.
As a bookworm, I see a lot of reading challenges on social media, which usually also encourages me to pick up my current book and continue reading. Some of these challenges consists of writing book reviews, reading alongside someone online or in person, or reading a certain number of books in a particular time frame.
However, after doing all these challenges myself, I thought, it would be fun if there was a reading challenge series here. Readers can complete the reading challenge alongside me, while I write about my progress each month.
Every month from October, I will start the reading challenge article with a review and thoughts on the book I just read, before moving on to select the next book I will read. I will also set a theme or a genre for everyone else reading this article, so that you can participate in this reading challenge that I have set. You can either use the theme/genre to guide you in choosing a book, or you can pick the same book that I will be reading.
For the month of September, I have decided to go back to my love for vampires and pick up Glass Houses by Rachel Caine. It is a series with 15 books, Glass Houses being the first. If you read this and end up enjoying it, then I strongly recommend continuing the series, because it only gets better.
Originally published in 2006, The Morganville Vampires series is unlike any other vampire story I have ever read. It is a young adult urban fantasy and has been on the New York Times bestselling list. This will be the fifth time I will be reading this book, and I thought it was a great way to kick off the reading challenge.
For everyone else, the genre for this month is urban fantasy, suitable for what my chosen book is as well, so go do some research and check your bookshelves! Find a great book and start reading in order to finish before October starts.
It does not matter if you have or have not read these types of books, this is the time to try new things and read outside of your comfort zone. If this is within your comfort zone, then do not fear, there are many more months to come for you to step out of your usual reads.
