Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel reunite at the Tony Awards to perform Wicked’s ‘For Good’

The 74th annual Tony Awards took place yesterday on Sunday 26th September 2021 at Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. This ceremony recognised achievements in Broadway productions during the 2019-2020 season. Paramount+ streamed a two-hour ceremony at 7pm ET with presentations of the awards for individual categories. CBS then aired a two-hour primetime special called The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back, which was presented as a concert to “celebrate the joy and magic of live theatre.” Audra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr. were the hosts of the Tony Awards event, as well as the Broadway’s Back special.
The ceremony was originally scheduled to be held on 7th June 2020 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. However, this was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The voting for the Tony Awards was then held from 1st March to 15th March of 2021, and the ceremony was finally announced to be held in conjunction with the reopening of Broadway.
The 74th Tony Awards being held last night, rather than being postponed any longer, is not the only exciting thing that happened. Broadway fans all around the world, especially fans of the hit Broadway musical Wicked, are all overjoyed over the reunion of Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel!

The former Wicked co-stars came together and performed the song For Good during the Broadway’s Back special event. Both were a part of the duets section at the end of the night, which also included reunions of Rent co-stars Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal, and Ragtime co-stars Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell.
What makes Kristin’s and Idina’s reunion so special is the fact that the last time they performed together was in 2005. Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel originated the roles of Glinda and Elphaba in the musical Wicked back in 2003. It has been nearly 18 years since the show opened and it is still going strong.

The Broadway Musical Wicked is an alternative telling of the story The Wizard of Oz, the 1939 film, but from the perspective of the witches from the Land of Oz. As one of the greatest musicals of all time, and with such great performances by the cast, it is no wonder everyone is talking about this reunion!
If you have not already gone to see the Wicked musical, do so now, since all theatres and musicals have started opening their doors to the public again.
