JUSTINA MUTALE ENTERS BLACK WOMEN POWERLIST
Justina Mutale, African Woman of the Year 2012 has been listed in the 2013 Black Women in Europe Powerlist released on Monday, 2nd December 2013
Ms Mutale, who is also founder/CEO of POSITIVE RUNWAY: Global Catwalk to Stop the Spread is one of only eight (8) women selected to join the 2013 list of influential Black women in Europe, which includes socialite, Emma McQuiston, the Viscountess of Weymouth, (ENGLAND); Cécile Kyenge Kashetu, Minister of Integration, (ITALY); Claire Requa, Lighting and Jewellery Designer, (DENMARK); Susan Enie Muyang Tatah, Founder & CEO of the African Arts Festival, (GERMANY); Obiachi A. Ikezogwo, MILEAD Fellow, (UK); Rioch Edwards Brown, Founder of “So You Wannabe in TV”, (UK); and Ade Oniledu, Founder of Women in Marketing Awards (UK).
An advocate for women’s, children’s and human rights, Ms Mutale is Honorary Ambassador for Gender Equality and Spokesperson for the International Women’s Think Tank. She has been featured as a Hero in the Capital Finance International Journal, which brings coverage and analysis of the drivers behind change by combining the views of leading multilateral and national organizations with thought leadership from some of the world’s top minds.
A regular Speaker on social, economic, political and gender issues, Ms Mutale has been featured in the same television programme as the British Prime Minister talking about poverty and world hunger. Ms Mutale has addressed the European Leadership Conference on Human Rights at the UK Houses of Parliament. She has also addressed the U.S. National Congress of Black Women, the most powerful women’s group in the USA, which has been addressed by both the U.S. President, Barack Obama and the US First Lady, Michelle Obama.
An International Speaker; Philanthropist; Humanitarian; HIV/AIDS & Human Rights Activist, Ms Mutale sits on the Advisory Board of the World Leaders Forum and serves as Patron, Ambassador, Trustee and Board Member of several other humanitarian; community; and charitable organizations in the UK and overseas. She has been Diaspora Ambassador and Spokesperson for the ENOUGH FOOD FOR EVERYONE IF Campaign to end world hunger, and a member of the Civil Society delegation to the United Nations General Assembly on the High Level Dialogue on International Migration, Development and Human Rights (Post 2015 Global Development Agenda).
A recipient of numerous awards and accolades from across the globe, Ms Mutale has been hailed as a shining beacon of Africa. She was honoured as African Woman of the Year 2012, on the same platform as female President of Malawi and former female Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe. Ms Mutale is listed in the WHO’s WHO Worldwide Directory of Distinguished Individuals and is featured in the BLACK 100+ Hall of Fame, an Exhibition and Legacy of the top 100 Black Achievers in modern Britain. Ms Mutale was recently honoured as Ambassador for Peace by the Universal Peace Federation, a global alliance of individuals and organizations dedicated to building a world of peace in special consultative status with the United Nations.
In addition, Ms Mutale has been featured her home country, in the Zambian POST Newspaper as one of Zambia’s great models in the Diaspora. She has been admitted to the UK DIASPORA CHANGEMAKERS Network, which identifies and brings together the UK’s most promising leaders of African heritage with a desire to support African communities in the UK and Africa. Ms Mutale has also been nominated as the 2014 Global African Goodwill Ambassador in Los Angeles, California in the USA. She is one of only 13 women to be featured in a TV Series on Eminent African Women, and in books on “Women Who Are Contributing to Sustainable Development of the World” published in Paris and “Women Who Changed Africa” published in New York.
The Black Women in Europe released its first Powerlist naming top black women across Europe in 2010. This year, Ms Mutale joins the eight (8) named in the 2013 Powerlist in the categories of: Design, Leadership, Politics, Social Activism, and Socialite. The Black Women in Europe Powerlist is intended to acknowledge powerful Black women in Europe and to inspire others to reach their full potential with their power and ability to act or produce an effect.
