JK Rowling and the Person of the Year Controversy

Since the last couple of years, most people know that JK Rowling has not been doing great in terms of her public image; once universally loved, the Harry Potter author provided us all with the Wizarding World, which, even after the films came to an end, continued on through the prequel films Fantastic Beasts. Now, in the recent years, she has been accused on multiple occasions of being transphobic, and it has reached a point where, if JK Rowling is a part of a production or an organisation, such as a film, her name is either erased completely or made smaller and harder to see. However, it seems she still has a loyal fanbase because the latest controversy involves JK Rowling winning Person of the Year in an open poll by The Guardian!

The UK publication called The Guardian recently ran an open online poll for readers to register their Person of the Year earlier this month in December of 2021, which led to JK Rowling coming up on top as number one. Any person could have been nominated and, whether it was genuine or as a joke, JK Rowling was registered and won enough votes to head for the winner position.

Not long after the results were clear on who the winner was going to be, The Guardian turned the ability to vote off on the online poll and closed it off. The business has yet to release a statement for the reason of making this decision, but here are some reactions by users on Twitter:

As for the final result of the winner for the Person of the Year, the votes are most likely going to be checked and released later on, hopefully in early January; until then, we can only wait for an update on this newest JK Rowling situation.
