The first few weeks are the most crucial in making sure that the area of the new piercing heals properly and safely. Follow these tips when cleaning your piercing:

  • Clean your piercing during your morning and night routines – make it a habit.
  • Always wash your hands before touching the new piercing to avoid introducing any bacteria to the vulnerable area.
  • Use a cotton pad to clean your pierced area using the liquid solution for after piercing care.
  • Dab it, do not swipe!
  • Avoid perfumed products for the first few weeks, especially the first week.
  • Once you start taking the piercing out to change it, clean it thoroughly.
  • Do not sleep or lie on the pierced area for a long period of time.
  • Be careful when showering and using body or face products, as it may irritate the tissues around the piercing.

Piercings usually take around a month or two to completely heal, so make sure you stay consistent as that is key. However, keep a look out for the following symptoms in case of an infected piercing:

  • Aching or throbbing pain in and around the piercing
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Burning
  • Abnormal yellowish or whitish discharge
