HBO Max Cancels ‘Head of the Class’ Sitcom Reboot After One Season

After one season, HBO Max has now pulled the plug and cancelled the sitcom reboot of ‘Head of the Class’; the television series had premiered on the 4^th of November 2021 with the entire ten episodes of the season dropping on HBO Max. This was a modern-day reboot of the classic series of the same name created by Richard Eustis and Michael Elias that had aired on the ABC television network from 1986 to 1991. The revival of the series was ordered and co-produced by Bill Lawrence’s production company called Doozer and Warner Horizon Scripted Television; it was developed by Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen and executive produced by Bill Lawrence.

HBO Max said in a statement to Deadline, “We will not be moving forward with a second season of Head of the Class. We were grateful to work with Bill, Amy, and Seth to bring back such an iconic series, and we thank them and the terrific cast for their hard work and dedication.”

‘Head of the Class’ revolves around a group of overachieving students at Meadows Creek High School and the obstacles they face with their teacher who wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life. Watch the trailer for the show below for more information on the first season:

The cast starring in this sitcom reboot include Isabella Gomez as Alicia Gomez, Dior Goodjohn as Robyn Rook, Gavin Lewis as Luke Burrows, Adrian Matthew Escalona as Miles Alvarez, Brandon Severs as Terrell Hayward, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Makayla Washington, Jorge Diaz as Elliot Escalante, and Katie Beth Hall as Sarah Maris. Christa Miller appears in a recurring role as Principal Maris; and Robyn Givens, who starred in the original series on ABC, features in this reboot reprising her role as Darlene Hayward, who is Terrell’s mother and the co-chair of the Parents Association at Meadows Creek High School.

The streaming platform launched only 18 months ago, and this cancellation of ‘Head of the Class’ is the second scripted series dropped by HBO Max. Back in September, the network cancelled comedy series ‘Genera+ion’ after only one season too.
