February’s Best Holiday Destination

By  |

A holiday does not always have to mean visiting beaches, finding better weathers to spend time in, or lounging at the hotel all day; a trip abroad this month should be about exploration and discoveries, which is why I found the perfect destination for you if you are planning a trip for a day, a weekend or even a whole week! Not only will I give reasons to visit this holiday spot, but I have provided multiple activities to do throughout your time, so start planning and get packing with your family or friends.

Lofoten Islands, Norway

Just off the north-western coast of Norway, you will find Lofoten Islands’ clear blue waters rivalling the Mediterranean, the mountains resembling Iceland, fishing villages, and edgy museums. There is a lot of beauty to take in once you visit, so to start you off, take a look at everything you can find at this fantastic holiday destination!

Fishing Villages

Being one of Lofoten Islands’ biggest attractions, the red and white fishermen’s huts can be found along the towns’ waterfronts, many of which are available as vacation rentals. The view of the water is absolutely stunning and the Lofoten archipelago is known for its “rugged beauty”; hence why painters and authors have long drawn inspiration from this location.  The islands make many appearances in Norwegian paintings and works of Jules Verne.

Water Fun

You can go surfing, kayaking, or snorkelling, which lets you swim in the sea with sea mammals. You could even book and excursion with a tour company to paddle alongside orcas and camp out overnight on nearby beaches – which leads us to…

Camping

Unstad Beach on the island of Vestvågøya is known for its world-renowned break and camping sites set up along the shore, so make sure you book for a night here to experience the full Norwegian Lofoten Islands’ life. Keep your eyes open for moose and sheep wandering along the beaches too but keep further from the beaches if you are not a fan.

Northern Light

Best viewed at this time of year, you can catch the celestial wonders in the sky here. “This is the month to balance having enough darkness to hope for a sighting of the northern lights, with at least a few hours of sun to light up these majestic islands, where mountain ranges meet the ocean.”
