Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Updates So Far

On 22^nd September 2021, Warner Bros. made an announcement confirming the third instalment of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise as Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The film had previously been announced for release on July 2022, but much to the fans delight, was pushed back for an April 2022 release. The story follows Newt Scamander and how he leads an adventurous team of wizards and witches to stop Gellert Grindelwald, as well as uncover Dumbledore’s secrets, which is something Harry Potter fans seem most excited about, as there are a few theories and discussions on social media to figure out what Dumbledore’s secrets could be.

It seems that most of the cast will be back for this third film in the franchise, including Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, Ezra Miller as Credence, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, and Jessica Williams as the Ilvermorny professor Eulalie ‘Lally’ Hicks.

Following Johnny Depp’s exit from the role of Gellert Grindelwald, Mads Mikkelsen will be stepping in and debuting as the villain instead, something we are all excited to see, like how the character will develop or change from the previous films.

In addition to the confirmation of the cast, the official storyline was also released as follows:

Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the side lines?

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will again be directed by David Yates, with J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves writing the screenplay. With all these new updates on the upcoming film, fans of Harry Potter have been sharing a lot of their theories, some of which even make a lot of sense, though keep in mind none of these have been confirmed!

The first one is about the escape of Percival Dumbledore from prison, otherwise known as Azkaban in the Harry Potter universe. According to some fans, he escaped and fathered Credence, which is how he becomes a half-brother to Dumbledore. The timeframe is the confusing part, as no one is able to figure out when this might have happened.

Another clever theory talks about Kendra Dumbledore being Aurelius’ mother. We already know through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that Kendra died at the hands of her daughter, Ariana, when Albus Dumbledore was out of the country; therefore, it is possible that someone would have impregnated her prior to her fall.

Lastly, an interesting theory about a time turner has caught a lot of people’s attention, which discusses the timeframe of Aurelius’ birth against the death of Kendra Dumbledore in 1899. What if someone, such as Grindelwald, used a time turner? It is possible, considering Hermione’s use of the device in the third film of the Harry Potter franchise.
