Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Film Reactions

Released on the 8th of April in the UK and soon to release on the 15th of April in the US, ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ is a fantasy adventure film directed by David Yates and set in the world of Harry Potter, the Wizarding World. The screenplay was created by JK Rowling and Steve Kloves as a sequel to the second film ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’, which was released in 2018; the first film ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’ was released in 2016. ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’, being the newest addition, marks the third instalment of the Fantastic Beasts films and the eleventh in the Wizarding World franchise.

The plot is as follows:

“Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards and witches. They soon encounter an array of old and new beasts as they clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers.”

This film is set several years after the events of its predecessor ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’. It sees “Albus Dumbledore tasking Newt Scamander and his allies with a mission that takes them into the heart of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald’s army”. It has been reported and confirmed that two further films are in development for the Fantastic Beasts franchise, so the story will not end here as a trilogy.

This time around, the upcoming film is set in the 1930s, leading up to the Wizarding World’s involvement during the World War Two, as well as exploring the magical communities in Bhutan, Germany and China, in addition to previously established locations including the United States and United Kingdom.

According to many critics and public reactions, ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ is an improvement from the previous film, and many have also praised Mads Mikkelsen’s performance as Grindelwald as well, particularly since he replaced Johnny Depp as the character.
