Famous Solo Artists Who Used To Be In A Band

By  |

Being in a successful band does not always mean that artists will stick together and continue to produce music as a group; unfortunately for us, sometimes individuals decide to part ways after some time in order to chase their own personal goals by pursuing a solo career. On the bright side, many of these artists who decided to go solo became very successful, and some even more popular than when they were in their respective groups. Let us look at some of these famous artists today that actually used to be in a band to compare how they are doing now compared to before.

Beyonce – Destiny’s Child

As successful as Destiny’s Child was, Beyonce’s solo career rocketed her to becoming probably the most celebrated popstar. It is nice to know she remembers where she is from though, as there are multiple appearances of Destiny’s Child together, supporting each other during Super Bowl or Coachella, etc.

Harry Styles – One Direction

The boyband was high up in the ranks, appealing to many young girls with their music; however, after Zayn left first, it was not long before it became clear that the rest would follow. Harry Styles ended up creating the most successful solo career for himself out of the rest of the members, selling two chart-topping albums and proving himself to be a talented songwriter, as well as a singer.

John Lennon – The Beatles

Although short-lived, John Lennon is well known for some major solo hits he created, such as “imagine”.

Michael Jackson – The Jackson 5

While Michael dominated the ’80s and broke down musical and cultural barriers with a glitter-gloved zest, he still knew where he came from, writing and performing with his family as The Jackson 5 and even achieving a top five hit in 1984. Running two successful career tracks at the same time was the start of Michael reign in music.

Justin Timberlake – NSYNC

NSYNC had finally freed themselves from the constricting contracts of Lou Pearlman and lead singers JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake took a bigger hand in co-writing and even producing some of their own tracks. This led to the launch of their solo careers, where Timberlake went on to work with The Neptunes, Timbaland, and Max Martin to create a list of chart-topping albums and singles.
