EVERYTHING THAT WENT DOWN AT THE FANTA COLOURFEST THIS SATURDAY

By  |

It was a fun filled experience at the colour festival, which saw young people of different ages come through to the event. This was an R&G event and took place at papa Joes on Saturday the 18th of September. The event was one of the biggest the city has had since lock down and the excitement in most people was evident.

It was hosted by Kachinga aka Mr 260 and Edna the ‘peoples Bae’, the duo had a lot of fun presenting and kept the energy levels high throughout the show.

The event was well organized and had a good turn out. It is usually a struggle for parents to find weekend activities for their children so it was no surprise that they showed up in numbers.

The colour bombing was extremely fun, upon arrival, random people were throwing color at you whether you were ready or not. Most of the adults assumed they were exempt to the color activities but that was not the case, as long as you were in the grounds someone was going to throw color at you at some point.

When the performances started, older kids were seen gravitating towards the stage and began to sing and dance the day away while their parents watched from a safe distance. Princess Natasha Chansa came on stage at about 17:30 and she gave an amazing performance, which went on up until 18hrs when Kunkeyani ‘The Jedi’ took the stage and gave his fans a good show, he had great stage presence and was very interactive through out his performance. After 2 songs he called Jay Rox to the stage, the crowed was excited because they did not expect him as he was a surprise guest but they were pleased non the less, Kunkeyani continued his set.

Later on we saw T Sean grace the stage in place of Bow Chase who was scheduled to perform at that time but had to pull out due to a family emergency and was replaced by the dance hall artist. Even though the crowed was prepared for Bow Chase T Sean did not disappoint as he took the performances in a different direction until the event was nearing the end.

However there were some disappointing aspects of the event such as the food, which was way too expensive, most people felt they did not get the value for their money and to top it off, orders were taking nearly an hour to get ready which was such a huge turn off.

The idea of performances starting late was a concern, the last performer left the stage when it got really dark, which was not a good thing seeing as this was an event for children. Through out the day kids were getting lost and had to ask for assistance on stage in order to locate their parents. they would head one could only wonder what the case was when it was dark, therefore performances should have been scheduled earlier.

Overall the event went well, the turn out was amazing despite venue being far, the kids were seen having a really good time and their parents really enjoyed watching them run around. We hope to see more events specifically tailored for children this summer.
