DRAKE’S ‘CERTIFIED LOVER BOY’ HAS SOLD OVER 500,000 UNITS UNDER ONE WEEK
Last week, Drake finally released his sixth studio album, “Certified Lover Boy,” after being delayed for nine months. According to Chart Data, CLB has sold more than 500,000 units in the United States in just under a week, officially making it the first album of 2021 to do so. The news arrives shortly after the record out-streamed Kanye West’s ‘Donda’ album, earning over 430 million audio streams in the US in the first three days after its release; DONDA earned 423 million streams in its first eight days.

The 21 track album has quite a number of guest appearances from Lil Baby, Lil Durk, GIVEON, JAY-Z, Travis Scott, Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Tems, Project Pat, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Kid Cudi.
Drake first got fans excited for new music when he treated fans to a quarantine gift in May 2020 with the release of his mixtape ‘Dark Lane Demo Tapes’, made up of 14 songs, and featuring guest appearances from Chris Brown, Young Thug and Playboi Carti.
R. Kelly is credited on one of the songs on the album, which has lead to a lot of criticism that it may help the R&B singer make money. He is currently facing allegations of sexual abuse, with multiple charges in the US which he denies. Drake’s producer Noah Shebib, known as 40, has explained why the R. Kelly credit is included. In a comment left on an instagram post, he said they were “forced to license” the R. Kelly track.
“Behind that faintly which you can not even hear is an R. Kelly song playing in the background,” 40 wrote, adding the voice “isn’t even present”.

40 claims that there was nothing they could have done about it because they only found out a few hours to the release but it has not stopped fans from being displeased, they can not stand the fact that R Kelly will make some money off of it.
In a song called “Fair Trade” Drake says “I have been losing friends and finding peace” this left a lot of fans wondering which friends he was referring to. The phrase was quoted a lot on instagram, it might even trend soon enough.

Overall the album is a success, you can literally feel Drake’s emotion on all the songs. Clocking in at almost an hour and a half, and 21 songs total, CLB is drawing some mixed responses from fans and critics alike. Drake is known for consistently stretching the length of his albums and CLB can be seen as another bloated release, but within its long track list are some exciting revelations and surprises hinting at a new, more R&B-focused direction for the singer/rapper. If you have been unsure where to start from in regards to listening to the album, hope this information helps.
