CONNECT AFRICA UNVEILS RURAL TELECOMS HOOK-UP
Zambian low-cost rural communications and service provider teams up with Likusasa
Zambia’s rural telecommunications and service solutions company Connect Africa has unveiled a partnership with leading Zambian engineering and construction firm Likusasa Zambia, which is part of the Likusasa Africa Group.
The alliance underpins the companies’ bid to connect rural communities to existing mobile network operator’s networks through the deployment of innovative cost-effective base stations that enable rural communities to share in the mobile boom that is sweeping through Africa.
Zambia-based Connect Africa aims to harness Africa’s entrepreneurial spirit and recent innovations in GSM technology infrastructure to enable rural people and rural communities across Africa to improve their quality of life and economic well-being.
Recent significant financial backing coupled with its partnership with Likusasa has given the company the capacity to introduce and implement innovative new technologies and business models geared specifically to the rural GSM market across Africa.
Connect Africa’s objective is to build a sustainable ICT driven service business, headquartered in Lusaka, that improves the lives of rural Africans.
Delivery of education, agriculture and health services, along with other public and private sector services to rural communities will all be enhanced by the new connectivity, which uses state-of-the-art “low tower, low power” technology. This, combined with the Connect Africa Service Centre concept, will create jobs and enhance rural communities.
The strategy is part of Connect Africa’s “impact enterprise” model that aims to leverage innovative communication technologies for socio-economic development across Africa and beyond.
