CASTLE LITE CORPORATE BASKETBALL IN THRILLING FINAL
Executives battle it out on the court
LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – The Castle Lite corporate basketball tournament came to an end last night (Wednesday, September 23) as the Hangovers were named as the first ever Castle Lite basketball champions for 2015.
The competition drew a host of corporate entities including ZESCO, Stanbic Bank, Sport in Action, ZSIC, and The Hangovers – a team of executives from various organisation whose ironic name highlighted the low-alcohol content of Castle Lite.
Wednesday’s games proved to be a tense affair with the first semi-finals between The Hangovers and ZESCO, which culminated in a thunderous and decisive 25-6 victory for The Hangovers.
Stanbic bank clasped a 33-21 victory in the second semi-final over their competitors, Sport in Action, and secured a spot in the finals.
The final saw The Hangovers and Stanbic Bank battle it out in a fierce contest that had fans divided right down the middle. The Hangovers however clenched a 31-28 victory with a last minute basket to push them across the finish line ahead of their opponents to finish a mesmerising final.
The Zambia Basketball Association (ZBA) partnered with Castle Lite Premium Lager in order to provide amateur basketball players who are also busy executives an opportunity to live active and healthy lifestyles.
“This has been fun and electrifying. A big thank you to Castle Lite, for sponsoring the event. Thank you also to the teams that showed up and participated and made this a possibility,” Zambia Basketball Association (ZBA) President Shawi Fawaz said amid loud cheers from the spectators.

In addition to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle the league’s purpose is to improve basketball standards in Zambia, by supporting developmental initiatives running under the ZBA such as: basketball coaching clinics; basketball referee’s clinics; and basketball infrastructure development
The league ran for a fiv-week period, during which two games were played every Wednesday Night alongside entertainment from DJs from local radio stations and clubs. Extra Cold Castle Lite was also provided for participating teams on Game Night
The Hangovers walked away with a 40 inch flat screen TV, Castle Lite hampers including Castle Lite branded snap backs, T-shirts, , and a DStv decoder. The awards were presented by Mr Fawez and Zambian Breweries Marketing Manager for Clear Bear, Musunga Chibiliti, who congratulated them for their hard work and team effort.
The corporate basketball tournament took place at NASDEC every Wednesday from 18:00 – 21:00. There were also consumer activations on the day such as a Money Vault, where willing participants purchased a six-pack of Castle Lite and spent 15 seconds in the vault to collect as much money vouchers as they could, to redeem Castle Lite branded prizes.
