CANDY-CANE SUPPLY UNABLE TO KEEP UP WITH SUPPLY THIS CHRISTMAS

By  |

US peppermint production has fallen about 25% over the last decade and this year their have been faced with an even bigger issue with the increase of demand with insufficient supply, Some places are witnessing the Candy shortage just days before Christmas.

“We only received half of our candy cane order for the holiday season and sold out almost immediately. We currently have zero in stock,” Mitchell Cohen, owner of Economy Candy, told the New York Post “Raw material and ingredient shortages globally have had quite an impact.”

The Company normally uses pepper mint as their key ingredient and now that there has been a short supply in the raw material it has affected them quite negatively. Any one who uses the pepper mint raw material is equally at a disadvantage during this period.

“Availability of candy canes has been limited this year by a variety of supply chain delays,” Spangler Candy Company CEO Kirk Vashaw said Monday.

The Ohio-based company says that even though less have been produced, candy canes are still flying off the shelves.

“We are seeing candy canes sell out at retail earlier than normal,” Vashaw says.

Vashaw started that regardless of the shortage in supply, it will not stop them from getting the candy on the shelves before Christmas and further said that the elves were working extra hard to make sure there will be adequate supply.

Along with the traditional red and white candy canes, Spangler also makes other flavors for people to choose from, including Skittles, Starburst, Dum-Dums, Jelly Belly and more.

This has caused some panic among its consumers but the company insists that they will rise above this challenge especially before Christmas. The pressure to deliver has definitely mounted for the candy-Cane manufactures.
