In December of 2020, the romance TV series Bridgerton came to one of the worlds most subscribed to VOD service Netflix. Created by Chris Van Dusen and produced by Shonda Rhimes, Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s novels set in the competitive world of the Regency era. The eight episode first season was met with positive reviews and became the most watched series on Netflix.
In January 2021, the series was renewed for a second season and in April 2021, creator Chris Van Dusen revealed on Twitter that the series had additionally been renewed for a third and fourth season.
After a long wait, we finally have some updates on what the second season has to offer, so here is a breakdown of everything we know so far.
Based on the photo teasers released from the Season two premiere for Netflix’s Bridgerton, a new family is in town, called the Sharma family. A sneak peak of Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey, meeting Kate Sharma, played by Simone Ashley who also appears as Olivia in Sex Education, was released on YouTube by Netflix. Watch the clip down below:
It seems like season two will steer focus from Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Bassett to Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma. The second season of the drama will draw inspiration from the second book in the Bridgerton series, in which the eldest Bridgerton son becomes entangled in a love triangle.
It sounds as if a lot is going to happen during the new season, so get ready by refreshing your mind with the first season’s drama by either reading about it or by re-watching it! You could also read the book series and find similarities and differences, if that is your preference. Otherwise, keep a look out for more updates coming soon, such as the release date and more teaser or trailers to come!
Plot for season 1 of Bridgerton:
The drama takes place in Regency era London in 1813 on the aristocratic Bridgerton family. The widow Violet, Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton is mother to eight children: her four sons, Anthony, Benedict, Colin, and Gregory; and her four daughters, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, and Hyacinth. Each episode includes narration by actress Julie Andrews, who voices the anonymous and ever-scandalous newsletter columnist known as Lady Whistledown. As eldest daughter Daphne Bridgerton enters her first season with Queen Charlotte’s favour, she meets Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings and best friend of her eldest brother, Anthony. Despite being encouraged by his mentor, Lady Danbury, the Duke is determined not to marry and plots with Daphne to secure his bachelordom and her a suitable marriage.
