Braxton Family Values Star Traci Braxton Dies Of Cancer Aged 50

The American singer, reality television personality, and radio personality, Traci Braxton sadly passed away on Saturday the 12th of March 2022, after a silent year-long battle with cancer. Traci Braxton had appeared on the family reality show called ‘Braxton Family Values’ which aired from 2011 to 2020, and recorded hit single “Last Call”, which was number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. The cause of death is confirmed to be cancer and many stars, as well as Traci Braxton’s family members, have taken to social media to pay tribute.
The Instagram post reads: “It is with the utmost regret that we inform you of the passing of our sister, Traci. Needless to say, she was a bright light, a wonderful daughter, an amazing sister, a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and a respected performer. We will miss her dearly. Traci passed this morning as the snow was falling, our angel is now a snowflake. We ask that you respect our privacy as we plan to send her home with love, celebrating her life. We are family forever. Love, The Braxton Family.”

Traci Braxton’s husband Kevin Surratt spoke to Buzzfeed News and revealed that she had died after a year-long battle with oesophageal cancer, which is a “disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the” oesophagus. According to the National Cancer Institute website, the oesophagus “is the hollow, muscular tube that moves food and liquid from the throat to the stomach. The wall of the oesophagus is made up of several layers of tissue, including mucous membrane, muscle, and connective tissue. Oesophageal cancer starts on the inside lining of the oesophagus and spreads outward through the other layers as it grows.”

Traci Braxton was the sister of R&B singers Toni Braxton and Tamar Braxton, as well as Towanda and Trina Braxton; all five sisters first entered the music industry in the early 1990s as a singing group called the Braxtons. They released the single “Good Life” and signed a record contract five years later, although by then Traci was no longer a part of the group.
After 20 years of doing social work and staying out of the spotlight, Tracy Braxton rejoined her sisters for the hit reality TV show called ‘Braxton Family Values’ in 2011, which aired until 2020. She also released solo albums ‘Crash & Burn’ in 2014, and ‘On Earth’ in 2018.

Within the previous year, Traci Braxton had lost a lot of weight, to which people commented online, mirroring the reaction to Chadwick Boseman’s weight loss before his death from cancer too. These appearance changes caused a lot of people from the public to jump to conclusions, which does not help the situation and instead creates rumour and gossip. This is most important as you can never know when someone may be battling something as dangerous as cancer, therefore it is always good to be conscious of not judging someone by a sudden weight gain or loss, as well as other changes in appearance.
