Best Podcasts for Daily Listens

By  |

During the day, there are many ways to relax, and one of the most reliable methods is plugging your earphones in or playing some music in the background while you are doing something, whether you are taking a walk, using transport, at work, or in your bedroom. Though recently, more and more people lean towards listening to an episode of their favourite podcast instead.

Over the past few years, podcasts have picked up a large following recently and now they are widely popular with more people discovering them every day. A podcast is an episodic series of digital audio files that users can stream. They have become something like mini-TV series that you can listen to while still getting on with your day, rather than sitting in front of an actual television.

With platforms like Spotify, listening to podcasts is within easy reach. Now, there is something out there for everyone; podcasts with topics on comedy, food, current affairs, horror stories, documentaries, and even TED talks.

After doing some research on the different popular podcasts available, I thought, why not make a list of some really good recommendation? That is why I put together the following list to help you in discovering a variety of podcasts.

The Daily Boost

This podcast is for people who aspire to live a better life and find themselves confused, frustrated and not knowing what steps to take. It provides the motivation needed to help clarify your purpose, eliminate confusion and create a plan. The Daily Boost is available Monday to Friday every day.

The Tablo Podcast

Hosted by rapper, writer, luminary, dad and guru Tablo of the Korean group Epik High. This podcast will have people laughing with his unique sense of dark humour, tearing up with heartfelt stories, learning valuable life lessons, geeking out over geeky subjects, and having deep conversation with amazing and electric guests. The show came to an end after 58 episodes in early 2021.

Start with This

The podcast that gives you homework is without a doubt always an intellectual and full of opportunities kind of podcast. Start with This is one of them, providing something to consume and something to create. This can be anything from a book to a TV show, followed by a writing assignment for the listeners. The aim is to boost the users creativity through a variety of subjects like ‘Present Tense’ to ‘Non-Lovecraftian Horror’.

Serial

Hosted by Sarah Koenig, this investigative journalism podcast features three different seasons with each one based on a true story. The first season investigated the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, an 18-year-old student at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore County. Season two focused on Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, an American Army soldier who was held for five years by the Taliban, and then charged with desertion. Season three explores cases within the Justice Center Complex in the Cleveland area.

10 Things That Scare Me

Each episode has a new person sit in a room alone and talk about his or her biggest fears. This includes things from cockroaches to death, flying, large crowds and even boredom. The discussions run from funny to deep and everything in between! New episodes are released every week.

With these podcasts to start you off, it can be easy to find others that you will love through connecting with the shows you like, with the followers, and by going to social media and checking what everyone else is saying.

Find your field of interest and start listening to your favourite podcast the next time you need something in the background!
