Andrew Garfield Speaks Of His Challenges of Starring in ‘tick, tick… BOOM!’

By  |

This year of 2021, Andrew Garfield has been busy with three films where he plays the lead role, these are ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’, ‘tick, tick… BOOM!’, and ‘Mainstream’. Considering the fact that recently the actor has been receiving a lot of attention for his rumoured appearance in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, as well as the major awards he has been getting in the recent months, all the hard work he is putting in is paying off. However, Andrew Garfield opened up a while ago about some of his challenges which he faced in the recent film called ‘tick, tick… BOOM!’; released on the 12th of November 2021 and available to watch on Netflix.

The actor spoke to NME, saying, “It always comes back to gratitude. I need nothing more than to be able to tell stories that I feel passionate about for the rest of my life. The rest of it is gravy and icing.”

‘tick, tick… BOOM!’ marks the directorial debut of Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also wrote the musical ‘Hamilton’ and is the one who sought out Andrew Garfield after watching him on stage in ‘Angels in America’, a performance that earned the actor a Tony award. Before taking on the lead role in ‘tick, tick… BOOM!’, Andrew Garfield did not know how to sing or play the piano at all in order to best portray the role of acclaimed musical talent Jonathan Larson. After a year of preparations, he made sure he was ready for the filming production, and if you want to see the results of his training, then check out the film on Netflix!

Andrew Garfield said, “If I can’t do a thing, then I’m much more compelled to say yes to a role. But what ultimately decides whether it’s a yes or no is the project itself, and if I feel like I’m the person that’s meant to be a part of telling the story in this way. There have been times where I’ve been asked to do things that were really challenging and really expensive, but for whatever reason it didn’t feel like my story to tell, and then I was proven right.”

The Plot is as follows:

“Based on the autobiographical musical by playwright Jonathan Larson. It’s the story of an aspiring composer in New York City who is worried he made the wrong career choice, whilst navigating the pressures of love and friendship.”
