Actors and Actresses who Dislike their Own Films

By  |

Many actors and actresses uniquely embody characters and achieve amazing results when their films are released, from gaining further popularity and a fanbase to box office success and sequel films; however, are there films that the stars are not proud of, to the point of disliking their own films? It turns out, yes! If you are interested in seeing the films in which actors or actresses disliked their role, then read on for a surprising list.

Grease 2 (1982)

Michelle Pfeiffer said in a 2007 interview with Hollywood.com, “I hated that film with a vengeance and could not believe how bad it was. At the time, I was young and didn’t know any better.”

Batman and Robyn (1997)

George Clooney appreciates the impact this film made on his career, but he spoke to SyFy Wire in 2011 and said, “Batman’ is still the biggest break I ever had and it completely changed my career, even if it was weak and I was weak in it. I don’t know what I could have done differently.”

Titanic (1997)

Kate Winslet does not hate Titanic, but she does dislike her performance on it as she said, “Every single scene, I’m like ‘Really, really? You did it like that?’ Oh my God. … Even my American accent, I can’t listen to it. It’s awful,” in a 2012 Telegraph interview.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Miriam Margolyes, who plays Hogwarts teacher Professor Sprout, is not exactly a fan of Harry Potter, as she said, “I’ve never seen a film, I’ve never seen the books, I’ve never read them. I just pocket the money when it comes in, and I’m very grateful for it.”

Love Actually (2003)

Andrew Lincoln told Entertainment Weekly in 2017, “In one of the most romantic movies of all time, I got to play the only guy who doesn’t get the girl. … I got to be this weird stalker guy.”

High School Musical (2006)

Troy Bolton was an important character in many people’s childhoods, but in a 2016 interview with Men’s Journal, actor Zac Efron said that he sometimes resents the character for casting such a large shadow over his professional reputation. “I step back and look at myself, and I still want to kick that guy… He’s done some kind of cool things with some cool people… he did that one thing that was funny… but, I mean, he’s still just that… kid from High School Musical.”

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)

Jessica Alba said to Elle in a 2010 interview that working on the superhero movie almost made her quit acting. She had a hard time working with director Tim Story, who asked her to “be prettier when you cry.”

Twilight (2008)

Robert Pattinson told E!News in 2008 that Stephenie Meyer’s original novel read like “a book that wasn’t supposed to be published.” The same year, Robert Pattinson criticised the character of Edward Cullen in an Empire Magazine interview, saying, “The more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that’s how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself.”

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Daniel Radcliffe told The Daily Mail in 2014 that he feels the sixth film contains his worst performance. He said, “I’m just not very good in it. I hate it,” the actor admitted. “My acting is very one-note, and I can see I got complacent, and what I was trying to do just didn’t come across.”

The Last Airbender (2010)

The live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender was always in controversy since its release, and actor Dev Patel is among those who does not remember the experience fondly. He spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in 2016, saying, “I completely felt overwhelmed by the experience. I felt like I wasn’t being heard.”

What do you think of these films personally? Have a watch and see if you agree with the actors or actresses in the cast, or if you disagree completely and love the film; everyone has their own taste, so like me who loves Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, you might also find that this list included a film you actually enjoy watching.
