2022 Berlin International Film Festival Updates

This year in 2022, the Berlin Film Festival is back with a huge line-up of new films, an in-person event with limited capacity, mandatory vaccines, and no parties! Taking place from the 10th of February to the 20th of February, there are three days left of the festival; already, there is much to celebrate, including new films from people like Claire Denis, Dario Argento, Quentin Dupieux, Ursula Meier, and Peter Strickland, and new rising stars like Kivu Ruhorahoza, Ashley McKenzie, and Li Ruijun. According to the IndieWire, there are “COVID-made features and murderous revenge thrillers, small-scale romances and real-life twins making their debut, and at least one film that just might be less about food than what happens after we eat it”. If you are looking for all the updates on this event, then read on and find out the latest on Berlin’s Film Festival!

Many winners have been announced at the 72nd Berlin Film Festival, though the one taking the Golden Bear prize as the best film of the festival’s international competition is none other than Carla Simon’s’ Alcarràs’. Scroll down for a full list of all the winners announced Wednesday night on the 16th of February at the Berlinale Palast.
Berlin introduced gender-neutral acting awards ahead of last year’s festival, with the winner of this year’s Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance going to Meltem Kaptan for ‘Rabiye Kurnaz vs George W. Bush’; the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance went to Laura Basuki for ‘Before, Now & Then’.

The Berlin Film Festival opened on the 10th of February and hosted a “jam-packed program of premieres” in the next six days until last evening’s award ceremony on the 16th of February. For the remainder of the days for the event, which is until the 20th of February, the festival is dedicated in catching up screenings.
