Snoop Dogg has just recently announced that he is now the official owner of Death Row Records, the record label that started his career 30 years ago; he was one of the “three key artists responsible for the success of the legendary west coast rap label alongside Dre and 2Pac”. The news comes just yesterday on the 9th of February when Snoop Dogg agreed to a deal with MNRK Music Group to become the new owner of Death Row Records.

Death Row Records was founded in 1992 by Suge Knight, Dr. Dre, D.O.C, and Dick Griffey, through which Snoop Dogg released his first two albums called ‘Doggystyle’ in 1993 and ‘Tha Doggfather’ in 1996. After this, the rapper moved to Master P’s No Limit Records in 1998.

During a press release, Snoop Dogg said, “I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value. It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me. I would like to personally thank the teams at Blackstone, MNRK and especially David Kestnbaum, who worked collaboratively with me over several months to make this exciting homecoming a reality. I’m looking forward to building the next chapter of Death Row Records.”

David Kestnbaum, a senior managing director at Blackstone, said he is looking forward to seeing Snoop Dogg take charge of Death Row. He said, “We are excited to put the Death Row Records brand back in the hands of a legend like Snoop Dogg. We wish him success in the years ahead as the brand moves forward under his leadership and vision.”

Death Row Records star artist in the 1990s was Tupac Shakur, but unfortunately, after he was shot and killed in Las Vegas in 1996, the label was brought to a decline, leading to Suge Knight’s decline. In 2006, Death Row Records then went into bankruptcy.

Chris Taylor, the president and CEO of MNRK Music Group, said, “Snoop is clearly the executive to take Death Row into its next 30 years.”

Back in November the rapper had even teased during an interview that he felt he should oversee Death Row Records, and now, it seems that that was not a complete joke! Additionally, the timing could not have been better as Snoop Dogg has also titled his new upcoming album ‘B.O.D.R. (Back On Death Row)’, which releases tomorrow on Friday the 11th of February!

Further news on Snoop Dogg includes his taking part on this weekend’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar; keep a look out for further news on Snoop Dogg and listen to the legendary rapper’s new album coming out tomorrow!
